Woman Stops To Help Accident Victim, Gets Hit By Bus, Then Dragged A Few Yards!

Local Woman Touted As A Hero By Witnesses!

She was Helli-flighted into S.F. where she has been in critical condition!  She is actually showing signs that she has not suffered brain damage by trying to communicate and I believe no longer in critical condition at this time!  However, her Family and loved ones are doing everything they can to be by her side as she attempts to come back from yet another huge setback in this young woman's life!

Raised here in Anderson, she has been living in Cottonwood for a few years now, regaining steps after struggling with domestic violence issues!  Those issues ultimately lead her to seek a degree in Social Sciences and she has had great success at school, receiving honors and awards from Shasta and has been commuting from Cottonwood to Chico to attend State!

I did make it out and about for awhile to the ArtHop on Saturday.  I am really interested in getting some Art Stirring going on around Anderson too!!

For some reason my Brokeneckstudio link has not been working?  So I just thought I would give it a plug here!

AndersonLife has been mighty busy lately, trying to sort out the business between me and my Shed/ Studio not happening has really got me running in circles!

When Kudos Are Due... I Love You More Today Than Yesterday, But Not As Much as Tomarrow...

First and foremost, I must give major props and massive kudos to my Hunny, he, that spent so many hours and slung so much sweat out in the grueling sun to get the roof repaired and squared away on my "Studio" roof!  Please visit my Art blog http://brokeneckstudio.blogspot.com/ to play along with me as I stretch my neck and try to do some ART!  Anyway, I digress...  So my Hunny out there sweating and pushing himself to the limits, (this I can see on his face as I take him some lemonade or a water) and I wish fervently that I could help but I cannot do anything but watch him suffer!  Breaks my heart at the same time makes my pride swell knowing that he does this for me!  I have accepted for the duration of our 25 years together that this is his way of displaying that affection.  If I would wait for gifts, cards or flowers I would have fainted away in the very earliest of years!  I am already familiar with this brand of love, same said for my Father...  :)

Now, as this transpired, (again I will mention that the temperatures were absolutely soaring over the course of these few days), during my trips to and from the Hardware store, I see a crew working on a yard down the street.  They are out there busting their behinds shoveling gravel and hauling whatnot in and out of the work area!  Whew!  I even stop one time and ask one of the guys a question about roofing, the guy has sweat POURING down his face, can barely see, and yet he is as nice as pie and answers my trivial flotsam with sincere kindness!!

So after a couple of days I had to just stop and say how great I thought they were and I asked for their card.  Apparently they are out of Redding, but they advertise on Craigslist and it takes them far and wide!  They said it like it is "we take whatever jobs are paying no matter where they are!" So if you find you need some good hard working Landscapers you could look up the crew at "Graham's Landscape Company", (530) 209-4053, Steve will be sure to hook you up!  :)

My hunny is not for hire however, there is not enough of him to spare!!  :)

Daytripping Into Lulafayes Home Decor Worth The Adventure To FInd!

Wedged snugly in between store fronts at 2915 E. Center St. Anderson. There is a nice little district that looks like it recently underwent some really great refurbishing efforts, Viola', I found it!  Well, to be perfectly honest, I had been there before, I just didn't realize it until I went there again!

My adventure began when someone on my Facebook suggested I look up her friend that had opened a shop here in Anderson, so off I went!  I love finding treasures!  It was really just driving over there, but that sounds boring ya know!! :)  Anyhow... Right away I realize that my Grand-Daughter and I had been in this store a few weeks back during another excursion in which we had made a point to walk into each shop in the block just to see what there was!  We had been making a mad dash of it, just to get a feel for things as we were brand spanking new to town and really had no idea what we had!!  We were only in the little shop for a few minutes and I had tried to make a mental note to return because it was clear there was plenty of things I wanted to dreamily doddle over but GD will NOT be having Gma DODDLE for ANY length of time so off we run...

I am so glad I found my way back!!  First of all meeting Bonnie was engaging and ideal for me!  What a great, gracious and wonderfully open person she is!  I spent plenty of time ogling some totally awesome old collectibles and she doesn't even yell when you touch!!  :)   She is in Fact getting ready to celebrate her First Year Anniversary!  That is hard to believe, because when you walk into her store you feel like she should have been there forever!!  I understand that she used to own shops in Oregon and Idaho before arriving here to open in our little town of Anderson!  I for one, am happy her experience has paid off in a lovely show room and delightful attitude for us to enjoy!

One thing I was so taken with was the way she has things displayed in such a way as that you can really get a feel for how it may fit into your life or just give you different perspectives.  You move from one little pocket to the next and feel like you are going from room to room!  Things are simply presented, without overcrowding and looks like a "home" setting.

I was overly impressed by how willingly and openly she bragged about the pieces done by local Artist's and then we even talked about how many unknown artist's there are hiding around the Anderson Area.  I am hoping to pursue that more in the future too!  Hmmm, maybe Troy can help us organize something down our way....  "0 I have a little nugget stuck in my craw right now... :}~*

That was last week, now today I had to stop back by because I had not gotten a couple of pieces of information I wanted to include here in my blog and lo and behold, I met the very person, Connie, that I had discussed with Bonnie at my first trip into the store to wit I wanted to conspire over some fabrics!  My good luck!  Then, in my info gathering and generally gabbing time, in comes another prominent figure I also had wanted to meet!  Monica, from the previously known "Monica's Vintage Inspired" that I have been ghosting on the Internet for some time!  Small world I stepped into there!

Monica was bringing in the Flyers and announcement cards for a Barn Sale!  Wow, How cool is that? So these fantastic, creative and enthusiastic woman are getting together to have an extraordinary sale!  A BARN SALE!  I remember going to those with my Dad when I was a kid! I think the idea is fresh and ripe!  It should prove to be a "Barn Burning" Event!  :)

Check out the details here, Roses And Rust, I guarantee it is going to have some great fun and some fantastic "supplies" for your Home Decor and More!!

I very much plan on having much more dealings with these lovely women and their endeavors!

I did have some great pictures too, but my Hunny took the camera to work and left it on his desk, I haven't gotten it back yet!  :(

Tragic Roof Tales Take Over World!

For quite some time now my Hunny has been working on making desperate repairs to my shed.  It is theoretically supposed to be my "Art Studio" because neither one of us really want me slinging paint around in the house!  Okay, so I don't really sling it, but I will assure you that my art is ANYTHING but neat!!

Anyhoo... so after spending a couple of weeks worth of after work hours and every day off propping up and patching the floor, at least I can walk across it without total fear of falling through!  (Still a few weak pieces of plywood to be dealt with later :} )  So, now it's time to hit that leaky roof.  We had moved in just at the end of the previous rainy season and caught enough to know we had some serious issues to begin with, so it was going to be an all out job!

He spent all of his days off last week, out there in the blistering sun, tearing off the most of the old rotted roofing materials and replacing the under"stuff" all the way up to the felt!  Great!  Next week we will get the new roofing itself!!  WooHoo!

UUmmm... YEAH, THAT'S right... NEXT WEEK!  So when it started pouring rain today my Hunny was at work and I was out desperatly trying to move my fabrics, art supplies and PAPER GOODS out of the rain!  I started putting out every container I could find to try to catch some of it, but it was a joke all the way....

Ma and Pa Kettle had nothing on me!

Unexpected Experience Wonderfully Wild!

As in Wildlife that is!  I was traipsing through the park again, (I know, HUH!!!), looking for a trail to follow and what do you know I found one!  I seen this small sign that said "Shasta Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation"!  Kewl!  I knew that was were I was going!

First thing, I find out there is NO TOURS!!  What??!  Oh NOOOO!  Turns out that unfortunately their permits do not allow for tours!  Since their primary mission is for rehabilitation and they are dealing with "wild" animals, they need to try to limit the contact they have with humans.  Dagnabbitt!! Oh, well, it does not detract in any way the greatness of what they are doing here in any way!  It just makes it less exploitable!  Most people have a desire to see cute little furry things when they are needing to make a connection.  So it just makes it harder to solicit for donations!  :)

Anyhoo... I had the privilege of talking to a woman, Mary Anne, that was so enthused by her job you could see it in her face.  She virtually lit up as she talked to me about the animals and how they work with them and help heal the wounds and prepare them for their ultimate return "home".

She was currently working with a baby crow, that apparently did not know how to feed itself yet, and I was taken aback by the size of this bird!  It was huge! It was hard to believe when she told me he was only (4) four weeks old!!  What?  Wow! It was pretty cool watching as she patiently grabbed a squirming grub thing and held it up to his beak, taunting and teasing him with it to force his attempt at trying to grab it!  I found myself cheering as he actually did grab it and toss it back for the first time!!  YAYAYAYAY!!  Then he made an even more proven point of his coming of age by flapping his wings and landing across the hallway!!  HaHaHA!  Now she will be on the run!! :)

What a very worthy cause this is!  I was amazed by what they do at this little facility and would really love to see if there isn't some way to get the word out for them!  They are the ONLY wildlife rescue in Northern Calif.  If someone or something tangles with the wildthings, this is where they end up.  I did notice they are a little prejudiced about bats and skunks though! :)

One thing I learned by visiting the website for them here, I did discover there is a benefit art show coming up for them, INFO, so I will be trying to pump it up for them!  I know that since the TB Caldwell Park Art Festival has been canceled this year a lot of artists are looking for alternative venues!  Artists Application, At only $40, this is a great bargain price for an opportunity to show your work, sell some pieces (they don't even keep any of your $$/sales here folks!!) and help out some really awesome people doing an excellent job in a little publicized cause!! Anderson "Pioneer" Cemetery Haunting Stories Now Counts One OF My Own!

I headed on over to the local "Haunted Cemetery", so described by one of the local "pointing fingers" I mentioned in earlier post!  It was not hard to find, just on the other side of the RR tracks across from the City yard on Barney St.  According to a little Googling, it is known as the "Anderson Pioneer Cemetery" (as close as I can figure, if I am wrong, I will stand corrected) and is no longer in use.  I can say that I believe it has been unused for quite some time!  I saw some as late as 1930's so I am sure that was the end of the timeline for this place? I believe it is also known by the I.O.O.F. Cemetery?  I saw that on a couple of Google hits, I am not at all sure why, I could not find any more information at that time.

Although it was far too beautiful of a day to be scary by any means, it did feel very sad there.  Not ominous or foreboding, just very glum and heavy.  I felt grief at the obvious history lost by weathered tombstones washed smooth, upturned either by angry winds or troubled hands who knows and no matter, they are lost and gone none the less!  There are numerous, in fact most of the remaining stones and markers are nearly illegible, but one thing that was noticeable was the number of infants and children buried and marked there.  It must have been really tough back in those days to not only bear the children but to be able to care for them!  If there was hardship, I am sure there was negligible if any care for the mother during the pregnancy, then the child is likely going to be just under robust to say the least! Poor things, it is heart breaking, but it also serves as a reminder to be grateful to these strong and willing people.  If they had not persevered we would have a whole different history in our nation!  It is sad to see this history and know that most if not all of these stories are gone to us.  Yes, I am sure there are a few recorded here and there, but nothing can compare to what I am sure is gone!

Now, according to wagging tongue, this is supposed to be a very haunted place, I was not given any other details, only that it was super haunted!  So, last but not least here, I wanted to say that the creepiest and the most heart wrenching of all was the MANY, MANY markers with a simple tin stamped "UNKNOWN" taking up one whole section of the first right hand corner!  It was uncanny!  Why so many?  All grouped together too?  A post from a census type report from 1974 listed that number marked "UNKNOWN" as 50!  50?  OMG WTF?

So, I snapped a bunch of various shots of these in different areas.  Then when I get home and start working on downloading the pictures, I start looking for and wondering where all the pictures of the "Unknown" markers were?  I knew I had shot at least 12-14 but I was sure it was more than the (1) ONE I currently had on my computer!  So I took the memory card back out of my camera and opened the files on it to look around, I could still only find about 6 shots of these!  So, I copied the files again and put them in my picture folder again, BAM, next thing you know, they are NOT THERE AGAIN!! SWEAR TO GOD!  I could only get the ONE to download! So out of more than a dozen shots I get one lousy picture to co-operate!  I wish it could give me more information than "UNKNOWN"!!  :(
So, now I am a little freaked out that only this ONE picture out of 12+/- that I shot shows up!

Whew! Who Knew There Was So Much To See In Anderson? Not Me!

I spent all day running around Anderson, with pointers from several local fingers along the way!  I found myself ditzing through the Anderson River Park again, mostly because the local park is usually a chance to get a look at the local people and get a feel for the local "personality" as well.  As a first impression, I want to see things the way a tourist might first get a glimpse too, so I find myself hovering and poking around in populous spots first, to the good stuff later!! :)

I spoke with a couple of Anderson's Finest along the way here and there, they were very nice and also helpful in pointing out some local sites.  I ran into a group of young men that I was curiously watching throw a "disc", (apparently the other name for them is a registered TM that starts with an F and you should not use it when speaking about this sport!) towards a strange looking orange chain pole thing and I discovered a new sport called Disc Golf! (I say "I" discovered in the sense that I have just pulled my head out of the sand for a moment type of way!) Wow, this was super cool AND these guys were having a blast!  They tell me it is quite popular and that there are several courses around Redding and surrounding areas too!  Tournaments and all!  Geesh, splat, pathooy, pthu, there, I think I got most of the sand outta my mouth!  :)

Anyway, they sure looked jazzed when "John" here:
Made a hole in one!  To wit is a picture here!

So I guess I should get out more often!!

Anderson Gets Taste Of The Italiano!

I guess I have to say, I think that the Paesano Days was a roaring success!  From what I saw it was definitely the place to be this last week-end in Anderson!  There was a lot of fun, food and frivolous behavior from everyone!  Some might say it is the Bocce Ball, BUT this is what it is really all about:

These events are wonderful for getting the people to come visit this small quiet community and get a taste for coming back again!  :)

Looks Like 'Paisano Days" Is About Hit Like A...Giant Meat'a Ball'a!!

Can't wait!! I was out this morning and got a glimpse of all the hard work these people are pouring out to bring this event to our local Park here in Anderson, Ca!  WooHoo!  I have only been to the Anderson River park a few times, but I have to say, it is a really NICE park! Wow, they have so much area, nicely maintained, lots of amenities and of course, it is RIGHT next to the River!! Can't go wrong there!
Hard at work getting that Bocci Ball court JUST RIGHT!!

Then I was off to go see Raette's (Raette Meredith) Mural at the High School!  Okay, so I am SOOSOOO Jealous of this woman's talent's!  I am so delighted she is part of our Artist Community!!

I love the way she can bring in the details in her work!
I know it had to be hot out there too!  :) Nice Raette!
So, since I wasn't done yet I had to make a trip around to spot something strange, here is what I found, not strange but old and unknown to me anyway!! :)

I stopped by Jack's Donut shop and had a great Old Fashioned Crueller!  Yep I even know what they are called! :)
